Traffic will be detoured from Plaza Drive onto eastbound 198 to the Shirk exit, where motorists will be detoured over the Shirk interchange and back onto westbound 198. California Highway Patrol officers, as well as flaggers, will be on site to direct and control traffic during peak hours.
The next major step is improvements to the connector ramp along westbound 198. The connector from Plaza to northbound Highway 99 will be closed 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. from March 26th through April 8th. Detours will take motorists off westbound 198 at Plaza Drive, north to Goshen Avenue, left on Goshen Avenue to Highway 99 north.
“While we will have traffic control in place to ensure safe travel through the construction zone, we do encourage motorists to use alternate routes whenever possible,” said Joy Holt, resident engineer with construction management firm Mendoza & Associates.

The $23 million Plaza/198 interchange project will result in a seven-lane overcrossing; auxiliary lanes along east- and westbound 198; and widening and improvements along Plaza Drive. Funded through state, federal and local Measure R funds, the project will provide safer travel through the busy interchange that serves the businesses located in the Visalia Industrial Park.
