Fresno has its newest police auditor. Rick Rasmussen was introduced Tuesday by the mayor and city manager.

The post was vacant for more than a year after the last auditor left. Rasmussen will work independently of the police department.

His job is to review internal investigations to make sure they are fair and unbiased. The city manager says it's about building public confidence and reducing liabilities.

"Any time you can use this operation to give someone confidence that their complaint is being reviewed and knowing there's an ear to listen," said City Manager Mark Scott.

Rasmussen will start part-time. He will split his time with Salt Lake City and will begin working full time in Fresno by July.
