Police: San Francisco Woman Set on Fire by Boyfriend

January 7, 2013 Updated Jan 7, 2013 at 9:35 AM PDT

A San Francisco woman in her 20's was hospitalized with life-threatening burns Sunday after her boyfriend allegedly doused her with a flammable liquid and set her on fire, police said.

Officers responded to reports of a woman screaming at 12:17 p.m. in the city's Bayview District, according to police spokesman Officer Carlos Manfredi. The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed by police, was rushed to the burn unit of a local hospital in critical condition.

"Most of her face is burnt," the victim's sister, Precious Craig, told KGO-TV in San Francisco. "Just a little bit of hair is still there, but most of her face is burned."

The woman took off her clothes and managed to put out the fire immediately after the attack, but police said she nonetheless sustained serious injuries, NBC Bay Area reported.
