Authorities have launched a search for a mother who abandoned her newborn baby girl on a doorstep in a duffle bag.

The infant, who medical staff believe is between four and six days old, was found swaddled in a blanket inside the bag at an apartment complex in Tuscon, Arizona on Saturday night.

The complex's manager told police that someone rang their doorbell just before 8pm but, when they opened the door, there was no one there - apart from the baby inside the bag.
