Fresno is looking at all options to close a multi-million dollar budget gap, including consolidating the police department and sheriff's office.

The City Council approved $50,000 to fund a study to see if the plan is feasible. If it makes fiscal sense, a ballot proposal could go before voters.

Supporters of the plan say there is a lot of overlap between the police department and the sheriff's office. The president of the police officer's association thinks the $50,000 is money poorly spent.
