(Press Release) On December 29, 2011, at about 7:24 p.m., officers of the Porterville Police Department were dispatched to a home in the 900 block of N. Cottage Street, for the report of a possible armed kidnapping where a known suspect had forced his way into the home, possibly using a shotgun. When officers arrived they found evidence that the suspect had used force to enter into the home, and it was reported that he took a female victim against her will leaving in a vehicle.
Detectives responded to the scene. During the investigation detectives received information that the vehicle involved in the kidnapping was possibly in the Tulare area. Detectives contacted the Tulare Police Department and requested they assist by checking a possible location for the vehicle and/or suspect and victim. Tulare Police officers located the vehicle, which led to an officer-involved shooting involving Tulare Police officer(s). The female victim was not in the vehicle at the time of the shooting and was located unharmed.
The names of the suspect and victim are not being released by the Porterville Police Department at this time pending further investigation into the kidnapping charges. The Tulare County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the officer involved shooting portion of the investigation.
