A 93-year-old Pasadena, California woman whose competition-worthy pumpkins were smashed by vandals is offering a $1,000 reward in the case.

"I was so mad. I was furious," said a tearful Mae Powell on Saturday. "How can somebody do that? I mean it's impossible."

Powell said four of her pumpkins were smashed.

Another, which weighs 300 pounds, was punctured with umbrellas.

The vandals struck late Thursday night or early Friday morning, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Powell, who enters her pumpkins in competitions, has grown the gourds in her front lawn for years.

She's even earned an affectionate nickname from the neighbors: "The Pumpkin Lady."

"I like seeing things like pumpkins. They also remind me of the farms that used to be here," said one neighbor.
