An elderly Virginia woman is battered and bandaged after she was attacked by a rabid beaver while swimming in a Fairfax County lake.
83-year-old Lillian Peterson was swimming Tuesday night when the 50-pound beaver attacked.
"First thing he did was take this big chunk out of my leg down here and I tried to fight him off," she said.
A fisherman came to Peterson's aid.
She credits the the man with saving her life.
Animal Control confirmed the animal did have rabies.
Peterson is recovering and being treated for her bite wounds at a hospital.
