There was a welcome home sign and balloons in front of the Quevedo home, in Reedley. Family and friends were gathered and the Patriot Guard Riders were in position. It was all for 20 year old Army Pvt. Geoffrey Quevedo, who served in Afghanistan. His mom, Ana Quevedo, has seen him come a long way since his accident.

“I’m so happy because he's here for three days only, but I was very excited seeing him walking again and eating again,” said Quevedo.

Pvt. Quevedo was all smiles during his homecoming. There were plenty of hugs to go around.

November 2011, he lost his left foot and left arm, after a fellow soldier stepped on an IED. He doesn't remember much of the accident or what took place afterward. He explained, “I thought it was a dream. It was just a blur. When I was in Germany for a couple days, I didn't remember being there.”

He says he's just happy to be back. “If I'm still here, it's for a reason. God left me here for something.”

Pvt. Quevedo's been recovering and undergoing treatment since the accident. He recently received a Purple Heart while being treated at the VA hospital in Palo Alto. “It’s not a good award to get, but you take pride in it,” he said.

It was a memorable event for mom as well. She said, “I met the 2nd wife of the vice president and I was excited when my son received his Purple Heart.”

Pvt. Quevedo says it's been an honor serving his country. “The sacrifices we make, it's pretty cool. I have no regrets. No regrets. I’m just doing my job.”

Pvt. Geoffrey Quevedo's heading to a VA hospital in San Diego, on Sunday. There, he'll be fitted for a prosthetic arm and foot.
