Missing, Convicted Squaw Valley Rapist Arrested in Mexico

"It was determined that Spencer Scarber was in fact in custody in Acapulco."

The manhunt for the 20 year old convicted rapist from Squaw Valley is over.

Spencer Scarber was arrested Thursday by immigration officials in Mexico for lack of proper documentation.

Detectives were informed of the arrest, then had Scarber transferred to Los Angeles, where he was taken back into custody by Fresno sheriff's deputies.

"They weren't going to let go until they got Scarber back in Fresno county."

It all began last July, when Scarber was arrested for a violent rape, during which he's said to have used a knife.

He was out on bail during his trial, and as the case was coming to a close, his father, Kyle Scarber reported spencer missing, possibly kidnapped.

But the trial continued, and Spencer Scarber was convicted of rape, robbery, and burglary.

Meanwhile, investigators continued their search.

"Information began to develop that led us to believe that spencer had left the area to purposely escape imprisonment, and that members of his family helped him to do so."

One of those family members is said to be Kyle Scarber, an assistant chief with the Highway Patrol.

He was arrested, and faces charges of conspiracy, and filing a false police report.

A search warrant was served at the Scarber home in Squaw Valley earlier in the day...

CHP says its fully cooperating with the sheriff's office as detectives investigate Kyle Scarber's role in Spencer's disappearance.

"It's always unfortunate whenever we have to criminally investigate a law enforcement officer, but investigate we must."

Spencer's mother Gail Scarber, and his sister, Crystal Reynoso were also arrested...

Sheriff Mims says they were the ones that drove to Mexico, but returned on foot.

Both face charges of conspiracy and accessory.

Gail Scarber is also accused of possessing false documents: A phony birth certificate and passport, both intended for Spencer.

"They are going to be considered an escape risk, so the places they will be held in the Fresno county jail will be separated from the general population, because of their connection with law enforcement."

Spencer Scarber currently faces 32 years to life, and is again awaiting sentencing.

Charges against his family will be prosecuted by the state's attorney general.

Kyle Scarber is under guard at the hospital after complaining of chest pains shortly after he was arrested.
