A Visalia police officer is shaken up, after he is shot at multiple times by a 48-year-old male suspect. Police say they got a call from the suspect himself at 6:20 p.m., Tuesday. Police say the man sounded angry and confused and asked for a welfare check. When an officer arrived at the suspect's home near Bridge and Sunnyside, the suspect fired multiple gunshots at the officer. The officer fired back, hitting the suspect. The officer was not hit. The man then went back into his home, starting a swat stand-off. The stand-off lasted 3 hours. Investigators were able to convince the suspect to turn himself in.
The man received medical care. His condition is unknown at this time. Police have not yet released his identity. He faces a number of charges, including attempted murder of a police officer.
After the stand-off, police found a gas leak in the man’s home. Police believe the suspect started the gas leak intentionally. A number of people who live in the area were evacuated from their homes.
