The central valley is in mourning over the loss of legendary Fresno State football coach Jim Sweeney.
Those of us who have been here since the 70's remember the charisma on the sidelines... The fiery coach who motivated team after team to success, to championships, and onto their careers.
He was the Bulldogs coach for 19 seasons, with his biggest win coming against USC in the 1992 Freedom Bowl.
Fresno State fans took a moment to remember coach Sweeney at the Diamond Dogs game Saturday afternoon.
"It made me very sad. Watched many of his games and enjoyed them. Thought he was a very good coach. It made me very sad."
"He deserves a lot of accolades, because he built the Bulldogs here at Fresno State."
Of course, we all know coach Sweeney, for coining the phrase, "Bulldog born, Bulldog bred, gonna be a Bulldog till the day I'm dead."
It's a phrase his successors, and those who've looked up to him have echoed over the years.
