Six people are dead and more than 30 injured in a crash involving a Greyhound bus and two other cars on northbound Highway 99 at the McKinley off-ramp.

The Highway Patrol say a Chevy Trailblazer overturned in a single car accident on northbound 99 just after 2:00 a.m. The bus swerved to avoid the crash, hit another car and ran off the road, and smashed into a eucalyptus tree.

The Highway Patrol says 47 passengers plus the driver were on the bus. In addition to the 6 dead, 4 passengers are in critical condition, 6 suffered moderate injuries and 24 had minor injuries. The injured have been taken to area hospitals.

Greyhound has set up a hotline to check on the status of passengers. The phone number is 800-972-4583.

Northbound Highway 99 will remain closed for several hours from Olive Avenue to Shields.
