A controversial issue is coming to our own backyard. Los Angeles wants to send half a million tons of sewage to Kings County.
It's part of a $200 million project to turn the waste into fertilizer. The fertilizer will then be used by local farmers.
Officials say there's no cause for concern.
Karla Huing disagrees.
"I don't really like the idea because in Avenal I think they have that and it smells. It's gonna suck."
Ceil Howe owns Westlake farms. He says the process of turning sewage into compost is common.
"A big majority of the soil amendment products available at your nursery are a bio solid waste product."
Voters in Kern County voted to ban bio solids. That ban is now tied up in court. Kings County residents have about a year before the first shipment of L.A. sewage comes into town.
