A Pennsylvania teacher who was caught slamming her students as "rude," "loathsome" and "frightfully dim" on her blog last year has flunked out of school.
Natalie Munroe, who taught 11th-grade English at Central Buck High School East, was fired Tuesday for poor performance, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
All seven of the district school board member voted to axe Munroe - but insisted that her blogging scandal last year had nothing to do with it.
"Ms. Munroe was, at best, a satisfactory teacher and was experiencing performance difficulties well before her blog became an issue," the board's president, Paul Faulkner, said in a statement to the Inquirer.
The Doylestown teacher was suspended in February 2011 after parents discovered she was bashing students on her blog.
Munroe called the students "out of control," "dunderheads," "disengaged whiners," "rat-like" and singled one out as "a complete and utter jerk in all ways."
"There's no other way to say this, I hate your kid," she wrote about an unnamed student in one post. She mocked another, saying that he'd have future after high school because "the trash company is hiring."
The posts were meant to be anonymous, but the author was identified as "Natalie M" and there was a photo of Munroe on the blog.
She returned to the classroom last summer.
Munroe and her lawyer called the firing "retaliation" for the embarrassing flap. On Friday, they filed a lawsuit against the district, claiming it violated her right to free speech.
