Visalia Man Becomes a Contestant on 'The Voice'

A Visalia singer competes for his shot at fame as a contestant on 'The Voice.'

The spotlight is being welcomed in Visalia. Community members say it's exciting to see a local man doing big things.

Visalia native, Rudy Parris one step closer to his dream.

Keith Korsgaden, owner of Crawdaddy's Restaurant says,"I think Rudy is gonna put Visalia on the map. I couldn't be happier for him to finally get the chance to be seen by a national TV audience because people are gonna see what we've been seeing for years, that he is a top notch talent."

He sang his heart out during a blind audition Monday night. The performance caught the eye of judges Blake Shelton and Cee Lo. Rudy chose to go with country superstar Blake Shelton, citing his deep country music roots.

Rudy's brother, Abel is happy with the decision. Able is also a musician. He's been in a band with Rudy for 20 years, and says it's time his brother got his big break.

Abel Parris says, "This stuff doesn't happen often. It kinda doesn't surprise me. He's so talented and I think that he deserves it."

Rudy's talent has shined in Visalia for a long time. He often plays at Crawdaddy's. The restaurant drew a packed house Monday night, while the crowd cheered on one of their own.

Korsgaden says, "When Rudy came on, the place was packed and they were cheering and so proud that a local guy getting a shot at this level."

Mark Fisher, Visalia resident says, "I think the guy's great. I hope he wins. It'd be nice to see somebody from Visalia win."

"I was really excited to see Visalia and a local person. I've never been a part of that before so it was really exciting," says Visalia resident, Holly Simons.

Whether Rudy becomes 'The Voice' or not, his fans say he's already on his way to stardom.

Rudy will be appearing on 'The Voice' again in the next couple of weeks to compete during the battle rounds.
