With any tragedy the question always gets asked, "is there anything we could've done to prevent it." Some people are beginning to wonder if our movie theaters are safe.
KSEE24 put in several calls to multiple theaters around Fresno but they declined response. We also called a private security company that handles mall and theater security and they as well were not offering any comments on the Colorado tragedy.
KSEE24 did speak with Captain Al Maroney who said our best line of defense against such senseless violence is an alert general public.
"The thing i think we have to do as a society is recognize when people leave the tell tale signs. I would venture to say that this young man's family is going to tell the public of
his behavior that now, that faint bell, is going to ring very loud."
Now as for increasing patrols around movie theaters, captain Maroney says that's just not going to happen. He says police are of course aware of the tragedy in Colorado and will keep an extra eye out, but as for an increased police presence, no additional officers will be dispatched.
Maroney also added that the best thing to do after tragedy strikes is to just carry on. He says otherwise, the person that committed the crime wins.
