(Press Release) Two Nevada men reportedly traveling through Madera got a one-way ticket to jail Tuesday, after an almond grower phoned in suspicious activity near his orchard.

Shortly after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, Sheriff’s Deputies were advised that a small red car was seen trespassing on property located near Road 23 and Avenue 16.

The pair was still there when deputies arrived on scene. Both men were taken into custody, but not before one of the suspects, who appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance, attacked a Sheriff’s Deputy by punching him in the face.

23-year-old Justin Oppenheim of Elko, Nevada was arrested on charges of assault on a Peace Officer. His fellow traveler, 22-year-old William Corgan, also of Elko, Nevada, was booked for false ID.

According to Elko officials, both have a lengthy criminal history. The investigation is ongoing.
