Train Accident in Kings County Injures Dozens

A big rig and an Amtrak train collided Monday afternoon on Kansas and 10th south of Hanford.

Amtrak 712 left Oakland Monday morning heading to Bakersfield. Around 12:20 p.m. a big rig was crossing the tracks hitting and derailing the train.

There were more than 150 people aboard the train when it was hit by a big rig and derailed. 42 people were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

The rest of the passengers were taken to the Civic Auditorium in Hanford before continuing on to their destinations.

Kansas Avenue will be closed for an unknown time and the train tracks are expected to re-open sometime around 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.
