A northeast Fresno family barely escaped an early morning two-alarm house fire.
The family made it out safely before firefighters arrived at the home near Maple and Gettysburg around 2:40 Thursday morning.
Fire officials say a crying baby woke up a family member who then saw the smoke and got everybody out.
It turns out, the battery in the smoke detector had died a few days earlier.
The family lost everything in the fire.
The Red Cross is helping the six adults and three children who lived in the home with a temporary place to stay.
