Candles were burning for Clifford St. Martin Tuesday morning. He was shot and killed in the same spot a day earlier. His suspected killer, Daniel Lugo was arrested hours later.
St. Martin's friend Vanessa Williams calls it a crime of passion, "It's a tragedy, it's sad."
St. Martin was living with his girlfriend but the same woman had a child with Lugo. Neighbors say the two men had a grudge and were constantly fighting.
The way it ended has Williams struggling, "There are a lot of people in the world that aren't good people but you can't get mad, you can't get sad because when God calls you gotta go."
Police identified Lugo through witness reports. He was pulled over and arrested Monday night. Sgt. Amy Watkins couldn't comment on the grudge but she says investigators are looking into it.
Sgt. Watkins said, "We are confident that Edgar Lugo was responsible for the shooting but investigators are still out looking for additional witnesses to the actual homicide."
Williams says St. Martin was a caring father with two kids, a son and a daughter. She says he was going to marry his girlfriend and leave town, "They had big plans and I was very happy for them... I'm sad to see him go," she added.
Even though Lugo is behind bars, Williams says it doesn't make her feel better but at least there's some closure.
Edgar Lugo was booked into the Tulare County Jail on murder charges without bail. He is expected to be in court Wednesday afternoon.
