West Nile virus is cropping up much earlier than it did last year. Three people in the central valley have confirmed cases.

Mosquitoes and birds began testing positive for the virus back in May. That's about two months earlier than last year, when West Nile virus killed nine people in California.

Officials are asking everyone to take care of water around their home. They also recommend making sure your doors and windows close all the way.
