Woman Cited for Driving Too Slowly... at 2 MPH Under Speed Limit

March 12, 2013 Updated Mar 12, 2013 at 2:33 PM PDT

A Maryland woman got her first traffic ticket on Friday, but it wasn’t for speeding — she was busted for going too slowly.

The woman was cited by a State Trooper for going 63 mph in a 65 mph zone, safely cruising in the left lane when — wait, what? The LEFT lane? OK, that warrants a little less sympathy, even though the woman says that she reduced her speed due to dangerous winds in the area.

Although moving one lane to the right might have prevented this particular citation, some people still think tickets like this are unnecessary.

"It's sending the wrong message," said John Townsend of AAA Mid-Atlantic. "And that is, 'We will tolerate you driving at more than the speed limit, but it you drive below the speed limit, then you're penalized.'"
