Woman Loses Control of Car, Kills Two Sleeping on Sidewalk

Los Angeles police say Carmen Elena Chavez, 19, lost control of the 1989 Mercedes she was driving early Sunday morning and ran over two homeless people sleeping on a sidewalk, killing both.

A drunk 19-year-old woman lost control of a Mercedes in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday morning and rolled over two sleeping homeless people, dragging both to their deaths, cops said.

Carmen Elena Chavez was drinking and partying with friends on Saturday before she and four others hopped into a 1989 Mercedes-Benz at around midnight and drove through Skid Row, the area of downtown L.A. that thousands of homeless call home, KTLA television reported.
