A party aide says Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto has died.
The aide says Bhutto died after being shot in the neck and chest as she was leaving a campaign rally. The gunman then blew himself up killing 20 people and injuring dozens more.
The death of the former prime minister is being confirmed by a
senior Pakistani military official. As word of the death spread, Bhutto's supporters at a hospital in Rawalpindi began chanting against Pakistan's president.
Some of them smashed the glass door at the main entrance of the
emergency unit, others burst into tears.
