People rally in Fresno against Prop. 8

By KSEE News

Hundreds of people in the Central Valley gathered on Sunday to let their voices be heard in strong opposition to the controversial Proposition 8. The event comes just one week after a similar rally was held in support of the proposition. Prop. 8 looks to define marriage in the State of California as being only between one man and one woman. Those opposed say that it is discrimination and violates human rights. Sean Thomas reports.

People need to worry about their own lives rather than others!! What happened to equal rights? Isn't that what America stands for?? It's sad that animals have rights more over human rights??

I have no problem with gay people. But the fact that they are trying to change the foundation of a holy marriage is wrong. Being gay is a sin, it clearly states that in the bible. Gays will need to answer to God one day. By the way, if you are gay then fine, look like a normal human being. Why do gay men have to talk so weird and walk like fairies, and why do gay women try and look like men, all butchy and gross. Yes on 8!!!

I believe in a singular God. I believe in Jesus. But every religious rant I read speaks of intolerance and hate. Who is anyone to say what God wants? Quote your scripture, preach segregation and discrimination. Perhaps this hateful god of yours will rally for you. Burning a few gays, witches, and gangbangers, to satisfy your fear. My God is a loving, accepting, forgiving God. Even for misguided fools like you. No on 8, because once you take away someone's rights, you take away everyone's rights.

Homosexually oriented people are not horses or pigs trying to change some sort of mystical natural law. They are human beings who are tired of being second class citizens. This is a civil rights issue not a religious issue. No one will force any church to accept or perform same sex marriages.

"People say as Christains we should be tollerant. I'm here to say that God is not tollerant. Remember when God told the woman to go and sin no more. Sure God will forgive, but He also expects us move on and avoid the sin that was forgiven."

I cannot see in the long run how we can exclude domestic union rights from anyone based on the structure of the Constitution. However, I find it offensive to call a gay "domestic union" even anywhere close being in the same sacred catagory as Holy Matrimony. This world is wacky so call it what you want..give equal civil rights - because we don't want to discriminate, however please DON'T call it MARRIAGE! That's an insult to God and people who have better common sense God!

The idea that gay couple's have the same rights under California Family Code 297.5, is the same as saying that black people that had to sit in the back of buses were social equals to the white people that sat in front of them. Equal but different policies are myths not supported by people that believe in freedom or equality. Marriage between same sex couples was granted by the California Supreme Court because it violates the freedoms of its citizens and is intolerant to non-typical lifestyles.

Seems me religious folks were screaming about interacial marriage too not too long ago. And if anyone is worried about gay marriage take a look at Canada which has had gay marraige for years and nothing bad ever happened. Proposition 8 is wrong. It's discrimination pure and simple.

Marriage should be kept between a man & women because that's how God intended it. If our Pastors, Priest, etc. are going to be sued if they do not perform same sex marriages, then they are going againts our religest beliefs. We have rights to and we should not have to worry about our children being taught against what we belive. We already voted aginst it once but the Supreme Court over turned it. Then we must vote YES on Prop 8!!!!!!

Brad: Californians voted against same-sex marriages back in 2000. It was the CA Supreme Court in 2008 that decided to CHANGE THE VOTE. So maybe California is not "evolving" as radiply as you might think. Also, there is no difference between the rights granted to domestic partnerships and married couples. They are treated equally under the law. So the only benefit that recognizing same-sex unions as "marriages" brings is peace of mind and the FORCED social acceptance of the gay lifestlye.

This issue is about tolerance. It is a fact that gay couples have the same rights as married couples under California Family Code 297.5, but they want to threaten lawsuits to ministers, pastors, priests, rabbis, mullahs, etc that don't marry gay couples. The gay community is trying to force their lifestyles and beliefs on other people in an intolerant fashion. This is why it is important to pass prop 8. 297.5 will still apply, but each group can hold their own beliefs without fear of lawsuits.

Jason Jackson, do you live in the 50's? The world is evolving, and Californians realize that gay people deserve to be treated equally under the law.

This has nothing to do with sex between two adults. This is to do with a definition of the fundamental unit of society. I believe that fathers are to preside over their families in love and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners.

Great rally. Lousy coverage! The speakers included ministers from at least 5 different religions who believe that all people deserve dignity and respect. The wedding sacrament is the right of each church, temple and mosque - their rules, their rituals. No one will take that away. All marriages are civil - that's what a license means, whether it's witnessed by a minister, clerk, or judge. My straight marriage isn't threatened by someone's gay marriage. Love only enriches.

Sex between two people should be kept in the bedroom between consenting adults and should not be taught to minors under the age of accountability. If this can be assured by law, then I forsee no problems with same sex marriages. The law prohibits the sale of alchohol to people under 21.... and the sale of ciggerettes to those under 18... but yet we will send our 17 year olds to fight in Irac or where ever........ come on people - what kind of message are we telling our kids ?!?!?!?!?
