An 8-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital this evening after being shot in the stomach during a drive by shooting.
It happened at this home in central Fresno just before 4:00 a.m. Thursday morning. Police say more than a dozen rounds were fired at cars in front of the home. One bullet hit the little girl who was sleeping on a couch in the living room. Police say the girl's three older brothers are Hmong gang members. Her 28-year-old brother believes he was the intended target. The girl underwent surgery for a massive intestinal injury. Police say she will live with the affects for the rest of her life.
The family will be also be issued an administrative citation for knowingly contributing to gang activity. That fine will cost no less than $10,000. The family may also be evicted from the neighborhood.
So far, no arrests have been made, but police say are they following up on strong leads.
