Madera Sheriff's deputies say 53 year old Danny Henley was released from jail December 16th, just three days ago.
Then, just before 6 last night, Henley broke into a shed at Burnett's Welding and Machine Shop on Snowline Ct., right off of Highway 41.
He took out a shotgun, confronted the property owner in the shop's yard and shot at him.
But he missed.
Erica Stuart, Madera Sheriff's Dept.: "Henley went to Oakhurst according to detectives with every intent to shoot the homeowner. They knew each other. They've known each other quite awhile."
Detectives say the shop's owner fired back in self defense, killing Henley. The Madera Sheriff's Department says this was not a random shooting, and that the two men knew each other. "Whatever transpired between the two of them for Henley to completely explode and attempt to do what he did, that right now is under investigation as well."
Henley used to live in Oakhurst, but was currently living in Madera.
He was being investigated for vehicle and metal theft. In September, he was jailed for driving on a suspended license and probation violation.
He was also wanted in Fresno on a $800,000 warrant for grand theft.
Detectives were back at Burnett's in the morning, piecing together the investigation.
"This wasn't a break-in. This was a fight between two guys."
