The second busiest shopping season of the year, second only to Christmas, kicks into high gear this weekend.
For retailers back to school shopping is truly like Christmas in August.
88-percent of shoppers surveyed by Deloitte said they plan to spend the same or more on back-to-school this year.
Nearly two dozen states are helping with tax-free weekends.
Merchandise offered tax free obviously includes school supplies, clothing and footwear, and some states exempt big ticket purchases like computers as well.
Still, some retail experts say shoppers shouldn't forget the usual discounts and coupons.
"I estimate that 90% of stores on any given day have an active coupon," says Brad Wilson of BradsDeals.com.
And if you don't necessarily feel compelled to take advantage of tax free weekends, just wait.
"I always find the week after the stores come out with more sales, they knock things off anywhere from 50% - 75% off. So, you actually do a lot better than just not paying tax," says extreme couponer Shavon Via.
