It was an emotional championship football game for teammates of Donovan Maldonado who was killed in a DUI related collision over the summer. Donovan's Eagle teammates won this afternoon's championship game with heavy hearts.
It was the first time in this program's four year existence that the team took first place.
Tamara Sanders, Parent: "There's parents out here who don't even have kids on this team. They stayed for this game to support these kids. It means so much. We're one big happy family."
Kyle Koontz, Coach: "They just played their hearts out. It's been a lot of fun this year, and it goes out to Donovan."
It's been a rough year for Donovan's team.
After Donovan died over the summer, the team had all it's gear stolen and had to play with borrowed gear.
Teammates said today's win is dedicated to Donovan's memory.
