It's a quiet part of southeast Fresno. The homes are far apart and it's mostly farmland and Ag businesses. But it's also the setting of a possible shooting. Police believe Sammy Mercado and several friends were trying to steal marijuana from a grow.

He was likely shot by people trying to protect the grow. And a bizarre development; a letter was taped to the front of our doors here at KSEE24. It's believed to be from Sammy Mercado's brother. In that letter it talks about how the Sanger schools and Sanger Police failed to deal with Sammy Mercado. In the letter it's written "my mother begged them for help." And when the family went to police about a missing persons report the writer goes on "they were very lackadaisical in their efforts." The investigation has been turned over to the Sheriff's Department. The writer ended the letter "if you perceived my brother to be a bad kid...he is only 16 and has a lot to learn."

The Fresno Sheriff's Office needs your help finding 16-year-old Sammy Mercado. He was last seen Thursday. Officials believe he was the victim of a crime and may be injured. If you have any information, please call CrimeStoppers at 498-STOP.
