Hanford Police are searching for clues in the brutal death of a south valley woman. 49-year-old Denise McVay was killed at a car wash Tuesday morning. There are no suspects, and few leads involving the death of McVay.
Police found McVay's car in Kings County. It went missing after she was brutally killed at the Royal Car Wash Tuesday morning. Investigators believe she stopped there before work and fell victim to a random attack.
Hanford Police Chief Carlos Mestas says the tragedy could be a crime of opportunity. Mestas says, "I'm not saying you have a serial murder out there because we're not. I think what we have possibly is a meth freak. Someone on drugs or someone who needed a car. We have to get to the bottom of it."
Deborah Harmon lives down the street from the crime scene. She says, "It's scary. Somebody is out there. You don't know who. You don't know why. Or where they are. It's terrifying."
Police found McVay's car Wednesday morning in Kings County. They are hoping evidence found in the car will lead to an arrest. Mestas says, "With finding that vehicle now it's leading us to what we believe to be the right direction." Investigators say the next 48 hours are crucial in the investigation.
