In the last 10 months, the central valley has had at least five investigations into inappropriate relationships between teachers and students. The Megan Denman case is just the latest.

The investigation into Megan Denman's alleged inappropriate relationship with a student at Hoover High School began April 5th.

Detectives gathered enough intel to arrest her Monday. She bailed out a short time later.

Students in Denman's economics class, who didn't want to be identified, now have a replacement while the investigation continues.

"I kind of don't believe it because she doesn't seem like that. She's really cool. I don't believe it."

Fresno Police say they investigate three to four cases like this one per year. Since August of last year, there have been at least five.

Clovis North teacher Andrew Cardillo was arrested last summer on suspicion of having sex with a student.

Washington Union teacher Nadia Diaz was arrested on the same charges in September.

Then, in December, Mount Whitney teacher Lianne Trout was arrested.

Elizabeth Tidwell whose daughter was one of Trout's students asked, "What goes through these teachers' minds when they're doing these things? These are students, these are children."

It was just last week that the Modesto teacher, who moved in with a student, was arrested on sex charges from a previous relationship with a student.

Investigators in the Denman case say when there's potential for relationships like these to occur, the teacher must maintain the higher standard they're held to.

Sgt. Nina Jacobs, Fresno Police: "I think with teachers, because there is that element of trust, that when I send my child to school, I trust that they will be teaching my child... The things they should be teaching them to be successful, well-adjusted adults."

Fresno Unified School District is working with Fresno Police on the Denman investigation.

Detectives say they are only aware of one relationship at this point.

Fresno Police are urging any other students who may have been involved with Denman to come forward.

The number to call is 621-2492.
