Adrian Esquer and Anthony Hansen appeared together in front of a Tulare County Judge. The men are facing multiple counts of attempted murder after police say they shot two men in the Visalia Mall. They are facing additional counts for each person that was in the area of the shooting. Both men entered a not guilty plea.
The shooting happened Friday night. Police say Esquer and Hansen got into an argument with rival gang member, Miguel Alcala and shot him in the neck. Steven Haynes, an innocent bystander was also shot in the leg.
Police released 30 seconds of surveillance video captured just moments after the shots were fired. Investigators say the two men in the video are Esquer and Hansen. They also say several witnesses helped identify the men. Both were arrested over the weekend.
Family members were at the court hearing but declined to talk. Victor Perez, Esquer's attorney says he still hasn't seen all of the evidence and his client is under a lot of stress.
"Frankly at this point, there is a lot of discovery that needs to be provided, very little if any has been provided. We don't know if there is any provocation out there from the alleged victims. The only thing I do know at this point is that these young men are entitled to the presumption of innocence." Perez said.
