Instagram, Facebook. Foursquare, Twitter. You name it, there's a social media site to help you stay connected.
Frank Morris: "I use it mostly to keep up with what my kids are doing and keep up with friends."
As with Fresno resident Frank Morris, there is a lot of good that has come with social media. And then, there's the bad.
Nathan Hafke, Fresno State freshman: "So you're addicted?" "Yeah."
He says he feels disconnected from the world if his iPhone isn't nearby. Even when he's out with friends. He's thinking about his next post.
"It's not really about going to the concert anymore. It's recording it and putting it on FB and seeing how many people like the video of you being at a concert."
Senior Deja Thompson on the other hand. "You know what? I honestly feel a little empty inside when I leave my phone at home."
Doesn't consider herself an addict. She admits she's missed an entire lecture because she was on her phone, but says it's never affected her grades.
"I don't know how people do that like stay on Facebook for hours when they could've been studying that's crazy."
While it may seem like a generational gap, researchers say adults are falling into the social media trap as well.
Dr. Tamyra Pierce, Fresno State Director of Social Media says, "We see adults, too, are using it. Many of them are telling us that the first thing they do in the morning is check their Facebook or other social media sites."
Pierce says if social media is having a negative impact on your life; loss of sleep, bad grades, poor work performance, it may be time to log off.
