(WDSU) Folks in Slidell, Louisiana wondered if the Old Town Soda Shop would ever reopen after it was damaged in Hurricane Katrina.

Then two ideas came together, just like chocolate and vanilla.

For 17 years before Katrina, Frank Jackson ran the Old Town Slidell Soda Shop.

Thousands of families came for everything from ice cream and sodas to birthday party rides on the old fire truck.

Frank had no intention of reopening after Katrina, until his friend Morris Hawkins had an idea to help folks dealing with addiction.

Morris' plan: Go through ACER, his addiction counseling program, then learn real life skills from frank behind the counter.
