Jennifer Granberg and her boyfriend Christopher Russell were arrested Sunday after officers found Xavier Alexander Frett lifeless in their Visalia home. Granberg and Russell are facing murder charges, they both entered a not guilty plea. Christopher Russell, also known as Christopher Harris, is not Xavier's biological father.
In court, Russell was crying as the charges were read, while Granberg, Xavier's Mom, appeared emotionless.
Police say the 2-month-old had severe burns from hot water. Tuesday, family members spoke with us but did not want their faces on camera.
They say Xavier's death may have been an accident. Christopher Russell's Mom says, "Jennifer said that he had slipped into the bathtub and it was hot water and his skin got a little pink. So she put him under cold water, and got him out and laid him on the bed."
Russell's Mom only wanted to be identified as "Susan." She says her son told her what happened over the phone. Russell and Granberg will be back in court on the 27th.
