It's very early in the investigation. Redwood High teacher Steven Post is still walking the school's halls, but a controversial comment attached to his Facebook account has been removed.
"It was not appropriate, it was inflammatory."
We were able to get a hard copy of the comment. It reads quote: "Hom osex uals [sic] will destroy you if you say anything against them, they have a facists [sic] agenda, they will stomp you with their jackboots."
Visalia Unified Assistant Superintendent Cindi Costa says the district is looking into whether the post violated any school or district policies. "It's not the fact that he expressed his own personal opinion, it's the fact that it appears that he identified himself as a district employee and we're interested in knowing how that might affect our school."
It was posted in response to a gay rights article on USAToday.com. More specifically, an interview with Brendon Ayanbadejo, an NFL player and gay rights advocate.
A concerned email sent to us in regards to the comment reads quote: "Gay and lesbian students in any school district deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, how can a teacher that posts hate speech online be subjective when dealing with gay and lesbian students."
For now, post is allowed to keep teaching, pending the investigation. The school district isn't sure how long it will take, or whether post will face any repercussions.
Steven Post teaches Math-Science at Redwood High School. The school district says the details of the investigation will not be released because it's a personnel issue.
