According to the Visalia Police Department, 27-year-old Lianne Marie Trout, a Special Education teacher at Mt. Whitney High School, was arrested for "unlawful sex with a minor and oral copulation."
The investigation is shaking up parents and students in Visalia. Police believe a special education teacher has been sexually involved with a minor.
Elizabeth Tidwell says she can't believe it. Her daughter is a special needs student who takes classes from Trout. Tidwell says, "What's going on with these teachers minds when they're doing these things? These are students, children. They're sick."
27-year-old Lianne Trout is facing multiple sexual abuse charges. She's accused of having sex with a 16-year-old boy. Police say the alleged victim is her former student.
Visalia Police Chief Colleen Mestas says, "I think teachers, government workers anyone that has the public trust is responsible. That why we take these matters very seriously."
Gabe Caldwell is a freshman at Mt. Whitney High School. He's heard the rumors. and hopes they're not true. Caldwell says, "It makes me feel uncomfortable around other teachers and thinking about what that teacher did. It affects my relationship with other teachers."
Trout was booked into the Bob Wiley Detention Center. She has since bailed out.
