Joan Katherine Walkingstick was born on March 9, 1943, in Fresno, California and passed from this life to the next on Monday, November 2, 2009, at age 66 after a long battle with cancer.

Joan graduated high school from Roosevelt High and she was married for 46 years to the love of her life Jay Walkingstick. She worked for a bakery and also did food demonstrations but her heart was always with children. She cared for children in her home for most of her life and the bonds with those children are her legacy.

Joan is survived by her husband Jay; her son, Darryl and his wife Karin; her daughters and their spouses, Lorrie and Arnold Centeno, Sheilia and Dave Schmall; six grandchildren Josh, Michael, Sommer, Heather, Sierra, Hanna and four step grandchildren Chris, Melissa, Jessica, Morgan.

Visitation will be held at Jay Funeral Chapel, 1121 Roberts Avenue in Madera on Thursday, November 5, 2009, from 2:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

A Memorial Service will be held at Jay Chapel on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 2:00 pm followed by interment at Arbor Vitae Cemetery.
