Adam Pettyjohn: The Resilient Bulldog

Diamond Dog alum fights back from illness to resume career

Tools

By KSEE Sports

Adam Pettyjohn teamed with Jeff Weaver to form the backbone of the Diamond Dogs' pitching staff in the late 1990's. Pettyjohn threw 15 complete games during his sophomore and junior seasons, taking out college powers like Stanford, Rice, and Cal State Northridge along the way.
In 1998, Pettyjohn was drafted in the 2nd round by the Detroit Tigers and quickly advanced to the majors...but then illness struck, depriving him of his fastball, his strength, and very nearly his life.
As Ralph Gastion explains, Pettyjohn not only recovered from his illness, but he fought his way back to the big leagues...and he's not done yet.
