Phillip Thomas Named First Team All-American

Phillip Thomas is named a first team All-America selection by the American Football Coaches Association.

The Fresno State senior safety is the 15th different player in program history named a first team All-American and the first since return specialist A.J. Jefferson in 2007.

Thomas finished the regular season with a nation leading 8 interceptions, which is the most by a Bulldog in 27 years.

This season Thomas led the Bulldogs with 82 tackles and returned 3 interceptions for touchdowns.

Thomas is also a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which honors the top defensive back in college football.

The Thorpe Award winner will be announced Thursday, December 6th.
