Jason Donald Will Swing for Gold in Beijing

By KSEE Sports

Former Buchanan High standout Jason Donald was picked Wednesday for the U.S. baseball team headed to the Beijing Olympics.

Donald, a shortstop who played his college ball at the University of Arizona, was a third-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2006. He now plays for the Double-A Reading Phillies.

The U.S. team’s first game in Beijing is against Korea on Aug. 13. Team USA, which won gold in Sydney in 2000, is back in the Olympics after missing out on a bid in 2004.

The U.S. team features 14 Triple-A players, seven Double-A players and one Class-A player.
