Mendonca and Ross Named Athletes Of The Year

The annual Fresno State Athletes of the Year as voted on by the media has been tabulated and the winners are: Tom Mendonca, a junior third baseman from Turlock, Calif., from the baseball team and Jaleesa Ross, a sophomore guard from Pinole, Calif., on the women's basketball team.

Mendonca, a recent second round draft pick by the Texas Rangers, was the WAC Player of the Year after he led the WAC in home runs with 27 and finished his collegiate career ranked in the top five all-time in WAC history in the category.

He also broke the Fresno State career home run record by 13 as he finished with 56 in his career. His 27 on the season led the team and ranked among the top three in the NCAA all season. Mendonca's 174 career RBI's rank third in Fresno State history.

The 2008 College World Series Most Outstanding Player was named to five All-America teams in 2009 while leading the `Dogs to their fourth-straight WAC title.
