Pat Hill has seen many successful assistant coaches leave in his 14 seasons as Fresno State's Head Football Coach, but Thursday's goodbye was tougher than all of them.
Thursday's goodbye was not to just a coach; it was a goodbye to one of his best friends, one that had been with him at fresno state since day one. On Thursday Fresno State said goodbye to John Baxter.
Baxter himself said he didn't think this day was coming- not two weeks ago when he was first approached by USC, not in the three times he turned down the job offer. But Lane Kiffin was persistent, and then made Baxter an offer that he just couldn't refuse. As a result, the longtime Bulldogs' assistant head coach and special teams coordinator will take his years of exeperience and his Academic Gameplan down the grapevine to the coliseum.
In his 14 seasons with Fresno State, Baxter's special teams were among the very best in the nation, blocking 89 kicks and scoring 37 touchdowns. Baxter's Academic Gameplan also produced 141 Academic All-WAC athletes at Fresno State.
