Tee Shepard, a former Valley standout, is no longer enrolled at Notre Dame.
The University says Shepard is back in Fresno with his family.
"Tee is a special person and it's unfortunate it didn't work out here," head coach Brian Kelly said. "Everyone at Notre Dame wishes him all the best in the future."
If Shepard transfer to another Division I program he will have to sit out the 2012 season because of NCAA transfer rules.
