Jose Ramirez of Avenal, is one step closer to punching his ticket to 2012 Summer Games in London.
Ramirez defeated 4th seeded Kenneth Sims of Chicago, 23-22 in the semifinals of the U.S.Olympic Boxing Trials in Mobile, Alabama.
Ramirez is the top seed in the 132-pound lightweight division.
He scored a 35-11 win in the in the opening round of the double elimination tournament.
He will advance to the Winner's bracket finals on Wednesday.
The title match against the loser bracket winner is on Friday.
