Giving back. That was the goal of one Fresno church Sunday. More than a thousand volunteers skipped traditional church services, and spread their faith throughout the community.
A sea of people were ready and waiting to serve.
"We're all pretty excited right now."
Instead of worshipping indoors, 1500 members of the Well Community Church took their faith to the streets.
Logan Todd says, "We're going to go around and make lunches and feed them to the poor. It will make me feel like a really kind person."
A day solely dedicated to helping others. At the Pinedale Boys and Girls Club, volunteers began transforming a dirt lot into a playground for kids.
Pinedale Boys and Girls Club unit director Louise G. Flores says, "This is a life changing opportunity not only for the staff but for the kids overall. Thank you is not enough."
The volunteers at the boys and girls club were just a few of many out serving the community. About one hundred groups hit the streets of Fresno, Clovis and Sanger--spreading a simple, yet strong message.
"Just be the church in those areas and not just to go to church on Sunday and passively sit there, but to be engaged in the community and in our world," says Well Community Church member Kassey Walters.
On the other end of town, drivers took advantage of free car washes
"I saw no donations and I said well that's odd you never see that," says Mickey Garcia.
Jonathan loya says, "It feels good to know there's actually good people out there still trying to do what's right for everyone."
"This is beautiful. It's a gift from God," says Margarita Jones.
That was exactly the church's mission-- to make a big difference one day, and one project at a time.
