(WBBH) A 90-year-old Collier County woman says she's on edge after she found out a bear ripped right through her screened in lanai.

Lois Martin says she found her Naples, Florida home's lanai torn apart after the bear ripped through it.

She says the bear tore apart the metal siding as if it weren't even there.

The bear also ripped through screens and windows - all in an attempt to reach a nearby trash can.

Luckily, Martin says she wasn't injured. But she and her and neighbors have run out of patience.

"I was very upset, I'm 90-years-old and I was upset when I saw it because nothing has ever happened like this to
me," Martin said.

"What do we have to wait for - somebody to get mauled and killed before we get help with this bear problem?" asked neighbor John Delorenzo.

We reached out to FWC officials who say even after this attack, they still don't consider these bears "aggressive."

"This really isn't an aggressive matter - just a bear seeing an opportunity to get some food and unfortunately he did some damage to somebody's house," said Carli Segelson, with FWC.

And the only thing they can do right now is make sure all residents are keeping their trash inside and away from their lanais.

"We're hoping to work with the community to help eliminate these food sources so we can discourage these bears from being in the neighborhood," said Segelson.
