(KPNX) A Mesa, Arizona man is facing multiple charges after attacking four high school junior ROTC members outside of a high school, then assaulting several police officers once in jail.

Police say the four students were assaulted about 6:40 a.m. Wednesday. A report said no weapons were involved, and none of the students sustained severe injuries.

Mesa police arrested Ceasar Ruben Meraz, 25, a former Mesa High student. He faces three possible felony and six possible misdemeanor charges.

Police say he also attacked a police and a detention officer when they were booking him into Mesa City Jail.

Mesa High School has changed the time of its daily flag raising from 6:45 to 7:45 a.m. after a man walked onto the campus and assaulted four junior ROTC members this week.

"We want to create a higher envelope of safety for students at Mesa High School," said district spokeswoman Helen Hollands. "We will have the ROTC students arrive when there is a higher level of security on campus."
